Primary & Beginner Levels

Get Up & Move

New to Highland Dancing?

This is where we start!  Primary level is the only level that is determined by age starting at age 4-6 years. Primary dancers learn basic dance positions that offer an abundance of creative movements that introduce the pleasure & athleticism of Highland Dancing.

Beginner dancers are 7 years to adult. We offer age appropriate classes for this level. These classes are a favorite among many of our beginning students. Students devote their lesson time to explore and learn the history of Highland Dance while building dexterity and strength.

Beginner dancers will begin to put together full dances and perform them on stage. Students will continue to develop technique, courage and confidence as they progress and evolve as a dancer. Our amazing instructors make sure everyone gets individual attention while keeping the classes fun!

Novice Level

Let’s Do It

Students love to devote practice time to Highland Dance. They are eager to learn more steps and dances!

Once dancers have completed the Primary and Beginner levels they become a Novice dancer. In Novice dancers usually add the Strathspey & Highland Reel,  the Seann Truibhas and the Flora MacDonald's Fancy to their dance repertoire.

Dancers will continue to learn new dance steps and hone in on their existing talents and technique. Dancers will continue to develop strength, athleticism, and an artistic skill. The instructors of the Bentzen School of Highland Dance are committed to giving each student personal attention while moving the class forward.

Intermediate Level

On Your Feet

Led by our dedicated team of instructors, this class will have dancers moving! This level is usually a bit  more challenging, but our students love taking these classes, as it gives them the opportunity to continue to learn new movements as well as the character dances such as the Scottish Jig and the Sailors Hornpipe. These dances showcase their skills thru rhythm & musicality.

Dancers have advanced to a level of commitment & dedication to their dancing. Students gain a strong knowledge of mastering their skills and dance technique.

Our instructors are committed to helping dancers achieve their goals!

Oh yah! You got this!

Premier Level

On The Move

Highland Dance is not just dancing, its a sport!

This is the most senior level and dancers range from 8 years old to adult depending on your level of commitment and participation. Premier dancers are more experienced and have learned almost every dance possible. Many of the older Premiers have been dancing for several years and are very impressive to watch. Things start to become more involved and many begin traveling more to championships, choreography competitions & premierships that offer a wider range of dances to perform. This is a time when many dancers start taking their dancing more seriously aiming for Regional, National and World Championship titles. There are also those who dance solely for their own pleasure and fitness. Our  instructors make sure everyone gets the personal attention they need  while working on their individual goals or ambitions.

Wow! Very impressive!
